In 1972, Mike Sciullo left the employment of a local body shop to start his own business. Specializing in custom paint and modifications, he worked on the muscle cars of the times and specialized in all phases of custom paint and repairs such as “candy apple”, “metal flake”, murals and fiberglass work that were all part of the “scene” of those years. As time progressed, the custom and aftermarket craze faded and Mike stayed within the confines of the times and primarily did collision and restoration work.
In the early eighties, Mike opened an auto sales business, specializing in reconditioned used vehicles. His clientele was primarily local, and Mike lived in the neighborhood with the people who were his customers. As his business progressively grew, he developed an excellent reputation for fair pricing and honesty. Over time, as demand required, he started selling these used vehicles to local new car dealerships and at auto auctions. The “wholesale” aspect of the business produced so much demand that he eventually worked on his own vehicles almost exclusively, averaging over 100 vehicle sales a month. Mike’s oldest son, Mike Jr. joined the business in the mid nineties and helped take the business in some new directions. One of those was the return of specialty and custom painting and more specifically, the selling and modification of “tuner” vehicles. For the first time since the days of the muscle car, young people were again modifying vehicles and putting their own personal touches into cars to be driven on the street and track. Car cruises, drifter racing and flashlight drag races are the new wave, and the possibilities are unbounded for the creative and enterprising individual. Aware of these new and exciting trends, Mike & Mike decided to take their business in a new and exciting direction, and hence “Sport Customs East llc” was born.
